IQNA – The 6th edition of an international cultural festival for women marking the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zahra (SA) will kick off today, January 3, in Karbala Iraq.

Titled “Ruh of Nubuwwa (spirit of prophethood)”, it is annually organized on the auspicious occasion by the Astan (custodianhip) of the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS).

Bushra al-kinani, head of the Astan’s Al-Kafeel religious schools for women, said the festival, whose motto is “Hazrat Zahra; Inclusive of Two Lights of Prophethood and Imamate”, will include various programs.

It will be launched with an address by Ahmed al-Safi, the custodian of the holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (AS), she said.

Honoring families of martyrs, recitation of poems, theatrical performances and an exhibition featuring top art works in the fields of calligraphy, photography, painting, etc, are parts of the programs, she noted.

Al-kinani went on to say that there will also be a research conference and several Quran recitation circles during the festival, which will run until Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sayyid Jawad al-Hassanawi, another official with the Astan, said 13 countries will take part in the international event.

Scholars from Iran, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Kuwait, France, Italy, Britain, Spain and Belgium will take part in the festival’s conference, he stated.

The festival aims to promote and clarify different aspects of the life of Hazrat Zahra (AS), and discuss the great lady’s character and legacy, he noted.

The 20th day of the month of Jumada al-Thani in the lunar Hijri calendar, which falls on Wednesday, January 3, this year, marks the birth anniversary of the beloved daughter of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

It is also celebrated as the women’s day and mother’s day.
